There is no fear in God’s love – never, ever. Yet, so many believers are fearful of what God might do if they don’t act right, talk right, or behave correctly. Folks, that’s more like a fear-based, man-made religion that wants us to keep guessing if God loves us, or if He’s going to hit us on the head for doing or saying the wrong things. It’s based on our behavior which isn’t the basis of our salvation.
There is no fear in God’s love. John, the Apostle Jesus loved, knew that truth, and shares its powerful meaning in 1 John 4:18, NASB. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.”
John understood the deep love Jesus had for His disciples, for him. He shared his confidence in God’s love when he referred to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. He wasn’t bragging but stating an awesome certainty he had from his relationship with Jesus. He wasn’t perfect, like many of us, but he was continually drawn into a deeper understanding of God’s love through Jesus. You can understand it in his further writings in the NT.
I remember our daughter saying she always knew Jesus loved her, no matter what others told her or even during some difficult times she went through. She knew Jesus would always have her back, and that’s the truth of what the Apostle John shares.
When you know you are loved, you won’t feel insecure. You won’t feel ashamed of anything past because you know love has covered everything. This is how Jesus sees us, thus how God sees us. You are covered in God’s love as a banner flying over you proclaiming love, blessings, acceptance. Song of Solomon 2:4, NASB – “He has brought me to his banquet hall, And his banner over me is love.”
“For God so loved, He gave…” (John 3:16). Allow God’s love to fill your heart with assurance, security, comfort, peace, and joy today because there is never, ever any fear in God’s love.
