Don’t Fall For The Fake

Here’s a thought for you that may surprise you, from many people in our country/world: In this age of fake news, the facts don’t matter. What? People would rather believe ‘fake’ news over facts? That statement can be scary. We see the truth of this statement spoken every day, and we hear it on the news and social media week-in and week-out. We know from scripture (2 Timothy 3) that the world will believe what it wants to believe, regardless of the truth. That means a lot of people will believe fake news over facts, and not just in the media. They’ll believe what someone else said about God, God’s Word, and what is really true.

It is necessary for believers to understand the danger of discarding facts (truth) in favor of fake news, fake truth. Too many are discarding the truth because it doesn’t match what they believe but what they believe may not be right.

We know the scripture, John 8:31-32 NASB. Jesus spoke this to those who believed him. “”If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” People use or misuse that scripture to show they are the ones with the truth yet they do not base their believing on Jesus. The truth Jesus was talking about is the truth about who He is and what He has done. John 1:17, ESV says “grace and truth came through Jesus Christ”.

Don’t fall into the trap of believing the fake truth which sounds fairly good but is actually contrary to the Gospel of God’s Grace through Jesus. Anything that doesn’t speak of Jesus and His finished work for you is not the truth that will set you free.
