Just A Thought September 1, 2020

It seems we are all in a pause right now or have been or will be. We’ve required to stay home more than be going somewhere. We’re required to wear masks if we are out in public. We’ve all had to push a pause button but no one has said for certain when we can unpause.
We’ve asked the question before, but how do you find purpose in your pause? How can you find purpose, not frustration, in the times of quiet, of not running here and there, of not always needing to do something?
I’m reminded of Jesus’ words to His disciples in Mark 6:31, ESV. “And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.”
There are times when we need a break, a respite from the craziness of our schedules. Jesus needed that, and wanted His disciples to enjoy a break. Notice Jesus was aware that people were so busy, coming and going, doing things, but they couldn’t even relax or enjoy a time of leisure to eat their meals.
Now that we’ve all had to change our schedules, are we allowing our ‘free’ time to change our minds, to rest in Him, to hear Him speak to us? He can speak to us through many various avenues, even playing a game with our children, or helping them learn a new concept for school.
Let’s not neglect ourselves when we are on pause. In everything and all that you, continue to refresh yourself in God’s goodness. As you do, your pause won’t be overwhelming, but restful and not full of anxiety because you’re drawing on all that Jesus provides for you. Don’t focus on the troubles around you or what will take place tomorrow. Let your mind think on what He has done for you. Focus on God’s presence around you and in you, the life He’s given you. Draw on Him, and you’ll gain greater enjoyment throughout your pause.
I like how Frances J. Roberts said it, “There is always peace in His presence. Do not disturb this by anxiety about what is in store for tomorrow.” Let’s not panic in the pause, but embrace and enjoy these times of quiet and not doing. Always remember, He is your pause, so relax and rest in Him.
