The Lord’s Prayer – Our Deliverance

We’re still looking at and delving onto the Lord’s Prayer and specifically Matthew 6:13, NASB.

13And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

So often when temptation approaches, we either run and hide, unsure of what to do, or we try to get out of it in our own strength. We’ve understood that God doesn’t lead us into temptation. He wants us to enjoy the life He’s given us, and He provides all things that lead us to a good life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Why would a loving God lead people into temptation, into trouble? He doesn’t. He’s always good, and always leading us to see and receive His goodness.

God is our deliverer, yet many people don’t see Him as that. They see Him as a mean God, ready to hit you on the head if you don’t do something right. That isn’t an accurate picture of a loving God. Jesus came to show us the Father who is kind, loving, caring, and who draws us through His love. Paul said in Romans 2:4, NASB it is “the kindness of God leads you to repentance.” It’s God’s kindness and love that leads you to change your mind about Him and see His goodness and deliverance.

Jesus has already defeated evil when He rose from the dead, defeating darkness and sin. He is a conqueror, and in Him you are a conqueror. Romans 8:37 NASB makes this truth clear. “But in all these things (whatever comes against you, whatever the temptation), we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”

If God is for you and IN you, who can come against you? Your deliverance from any and all evil (anything contrary to God’s love and grace through Jesus) operates IN you as a child of God, so when you pray this verse, you can stand tall and firm declaring His deliverance in your life, and that you are free from the snares of the enemy.

Child of God, you’ve been delivered and set free. You don’t need to battle temptation or evil because you operate in the power of Almighty God.
