The Box – Part 3
September 1, 2021The other day in a nearby park we watched a large turtle cross a small road. Following him was a little bird. As the turtle slowly crossed the asphalt, I couldn’t help but recognize he has to carry his house wherever he goes, which got me to thinking. We carry our house with us wherever we go as well…not our physical house with an address on a particular street, but our dwelling, the body in which we live.
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:7 NASB, “But we have this treasure in earthen containers, so that the extraordinary greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.” Our treasure is God’s life and power living in us. Yet, so many times we fill our house with junk.
What type of junk you ask? Junk that needs to be removed—past decisions, good or bad, hurts that hinder our healthy progress of living, guilt from previous decisions, shame from people situations, etc. That’s the junk that may still live in our house, in us.
The turtle can’t abandon his ‘house’, or he will die. We, on the other hand, can release the past, the hurts, the guilt or shame we’ve experienced and hid in our house. We can throw it out, not allowing it to hinder our forward progress. Jesus took all of that for us already. It’s time to recognize our freedom in Him and walk in it.
In Galatians 5:1 NASB Paul says, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore, keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” The yoke of slavery includes any of the things we’ve mention that keep you from walking in the peace and joy of the Lord.
Don’t carry your house of shame, guilt, bad decisions with you. Walk tall in the freedom Jesus gives you, and smile because He loves you!
