Sheltered In His Wings Devotion

Sometimes it may feel like we’re out there alone without anyone around to help. Don’t panic or give up because there’s hope. The picture with this devotion illustrates Psalm 91:4 NLT, perfectly.

“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

Do you know the reasons the mother bird protects her young by covering them with her feathers? Obviously because her feathers spread over them protecting again wind, rain, or other weather elements. But there’s something else—something more interesting I find. You see, sheltered under the wings, against the mother, the young bird is close to the mother’s heart. It can feel the beat of her heart and the protection she gives.

I think that’s why the Psalmist gave this inspired illustration of God’s protection and shelter. He had seen firsthand in his life something similar to our picture. He had experienced God’s shelter and provision many times in his own life, times when he was surrounded by his enemies, times when others were against him. Yet, David’s heart was turned to the Lord. It was in His presence he found peace, security, safety, and hope!

When things around you seem upside down; when you’re not sure which way to go, turn to the Lord. Allow Him to hide you under the shadow of His wings, close to His heart of love. Then you will be able to draw from His presence in you, His protection over you, and the strength from His Word, empowering you. His faithful promises are your shield and protection.
