Just A Thought
March 10, 2023The words in your mouth are powerful. They can create or they can destroy. Even as children, we were encouraged to guard our mouth, right? But what we may not have understood or learned is that by guarding our hearts/beliefs, we are really guarding our words. Once we speak words, they can’t go back into our mouth. I’m sure that’s why Proverbs 4:23, NIV says we should “guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Match that up with what Jesus said in Matthew 12:34 NIV, “the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
Let’s tie this into our theme of HOPE this year. How do our words line up with hope, with God’s promises? I trust we are all learning more each day how to line up our hearts with the Word of God. What we read in the New Testament are not just ‘words’ but words containing God’s power and truth. When we continue to align those words in our mouths and hearts, we can speak what God speaks and see the fulfillment of His promises. His Word is powerful—powerful enough to change our hearts, our lives, our present situation, our world.
Romans 10:8 NKGV gives the reality of this particular truth in these words, “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach).” Did you catch that? The power of God’s Word is IN YOUR HEART AND MOUTH! That’s why your words are powerful. That’s why you can speak the Word of God in your circumstance, and with faith, believe for things to change. That’s the Hope and Power of God’s Word that is available to you.
Don’t speak negative words, but words of God’s love, of His Hope, of His provisions for you! Your world and life will change…and it’s the power of your words.
