There may have been times when you had difficulty not wavering in your hope of God answering your prayer or fulfilling His promises to you. I think it’s a condition common to all believers. Yet we know from scripture we are encouraged to hold onto the hope we have in our God and what His Word promises for us.
Hebrews 10:23, (NLT) puts it this way, and note that it’s positive encouragement. It’s like a parent giving their toddler a little boost with their hands in order to stand up. It’s encouragement for you today. “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”
You may have heard a more negative exhortation, ‘you’d better hang on or else’ but it scared you because the pressure was on you, and heaven forbid if you failed to hold on what the consequences would be.
Here’s the difference. What we hold onto are God’s promises that are always trustworthy. When we hold onto those, we are agreeing with what God says. That’s what we’re holding onto—God’s faithful promises fulfilled in Jesus. We’re agreeing with what He has promised. That’s what we affirm.
So, let’s hold tightly without wavering—without being wishy/washy, uncertain, or doubtful—to the hope we have in God—agreeing with what He has promised and His goodness to us. Fill your heart and mind with His Word, the provisions Jesus purchased for you. The more you do, the more you will easily hold onto and agree with His promises and see their fulfillment in your life.
