Psalm 130:5, NLT says, “I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.”
I’m sure you could recall times in your life when you were counting on the Lord to be there, to give you a word of direction or encouragement. I have. I recall several times when there was an immediate need for family members. I poured out my heart to the Lord for the needs—I was counting on Him. And He was (and is always) faithful. Not only did I feel His presence as waves of peace washing over me, He quickened some scriptures to my mind. Needless to say, I was at peace. I knew the situations were resolved, the answers forthcoming. I had put my trust and hope in His Word.
King David’s request in Psalm 130 was a call for God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness in his life. He knew to go to the source for what he needed and called on God’s love and grace. He wasn’t disappointed. He knew the power of God’s Word, the promises of God. I believe he had some insight into what the Messiah would usher in even though he was under the Law of Moses. Because he’d seen God’s faithfulness at work in his life, he knew he could count on the Lord and trust Him. His hope was in the Lord.
No matter what you face today or even tomorrow, you can count on the Lord to be there with you, to direct your steps through anything. The key David shows us is powerful—that is, putting our hope in God’s Word. It’s a sure foundation, and when times are tough, you can draw from your reservoir of hope in the Word.
Let’s be encouraged to get the Word, get God’s promises into our hearts and minds. Our hope is in Him—in His Word.
