What’s Your Name?

I’m sure you know people have many different names and not just a given name. Some people are sons; others are daughters. There are many moms and dads, as well as grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles, and cousins.  We all have a given name, what our parents named us. But we also have other names, or if you will, titles we go by. I’m a daughter, a wife, a mother, a mother-in-law, a daughter-in-law to name a few. My husband and I enjoy playing Pokémon Go, and in that game, I’m known as writerchar.  But the one name I love and remind myself of daily is child of God.

So, we might ask, what’s in a name? Names in ‘olden’ days referred to a family, a clan, or a group of people. The name could speak of attributes, as well as connections to other family members. When we were expecting our first child, not knowing if it would be a boy or girl, we picked names with meaning for either. Our children are known by the names we gave them. You are known by the name your parents gave you. Names are important. Names state who you are. If everyone were called by one name, it could be quite confusing. We can have various titles, names, degrees, accomplishments, but when it all gets down to the basics and joys of life, do you know the most important name you can?

That name would be child of God. Child of God establishes you in a family, in God’s family. It gives you identity to who your Heavenly Father is. The name allows you to belong and receive what your Heavenly Father has (which is vast and beyond imagination). Your name as a child of God fills you with security, love, and peace. I may be a mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, but I also want to be known as a beloved child of God. You are also a beloved child of God…don’t ever forget that!
