Just A Thought
October 27, 2023There is so much encouragement in the Psalms. And King David is not without sharing his confident expectation: his hope in God.
Here’s what he says in Psalm 61:5-6, NIV: “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”
Let’s get rid of the doom and gloom thinking we’ve had. That’s when you let your thoughts dwell on the negative reports, the anxiety, the guilt that the enemy plagues you with. Get your mind renewed in God’s promises. Therein is hope.
Notice what David says. His hope, his confident expectation of good is in God, and because of that he has rest. That’s rest from the doom and gloom thoughts, the negative reminders. Also notice he declares God is his fortress. A fortress is a place of safety, a place of security. Those are in God’s fortress are safe, delivered, and at peace.
I can picture a rock fortress on the edge of an ocean. Nothing, not even the waves, can penetrate the fortress. It’s secure. It buffets the waves and protects those inside. That’s why David says he won’t be shaken.
Now it’s time to put the Word into practice. Now is when you can renew your mind with thoughts of God’s protection and deliverance. It’s when you anchor your thinking like that, your hope will expand and envelop you. You will recognize the expectation of good from God coming. Your mind will be free of negative thinking. You will rest in His hope.
This is David’s hope—and yours!
