The Box – Part 3January 18, 2024
Do you ever talk to yourself? I do. I recall some years back walking down the hallway where I worked, and I spoke out loud reminding myself what I needed to do. I didn’t realize the Office Manager was behind me and heard me talking. He teased me about it, but I told him I was talking to an intelligent person to which he chuckled.
So, maybe you talk to yourself from time to time. Maybe when things are going tough, or you’re under a lot of stress and pressure. Maybe even when you’re sad or lonely. Hey, we’ve all been there. The key to talking to yourself is WHAT you SAY to yourself during these times.
So many times, we can fall into the trap of talking or speaking out the negative things—yes, to ourselves. We copy what others have said to us, or the apprehension or fear we have. But saying those things doesn’t help, does it?
When our mind drifts into anxious thoughts (and yes, we’re all susceptible to them), we need to pull away from the thoughts that assault us, and life’s problems that seem to scream at us, and very simply meditate on God’s promises in His Word.
Isaiah 26:3 reminds us of one of these promises: “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed (focused) on You, because he trusts in You.”
So, when times are tough and negative thoughts bombard your thinking, remind yourself to receive and relax in His peace. You don’t need to think about the challenge or the problem or what to do. Center your thoughts on the Lord. Trust Him, keeping your mind focused on His love and goodness to you and provision for you. Train your heart to see how God views your challenges because the bigger He becomes in our heart and mind as we trust Him, the smaller our challenges.
You can defeat the negative talk and thoughts the more you focus on God’s promises and speak them to yourself. You’re more than a conqueror you know.
