The Box – Part 4January 25, 2024
Throughout of lives we do a lot of training. We can train our pets to follow our voice commands. We train our ears to listen for approaching trains by railroad tracks or sirens from ambulances behind us on the road. We train our ears to listen to the words of songs. Do you remember the song “Dem Bones”? It was a spiritual song from the late 1920’s, and the lyrics were inspired by what the prophet Ezekiel spoke over dry bones in Ezekiel 37:1-14. The words go like this: Toe bone connected to the foot bone; Foot bone connected to the heel bone; Heel bone connected to the ankle bone; Ankle bone connected to the leg bone; Leg bone connected to the knee bone; Knee bone connected to the thigh bone; Thigh bone connected to the hip bone; Hip bone connected to the back bone; Back bone connected to the shoulder bone; Shoulder bone connected to the neck bone; Neck bone connected to the head bone…Hear the word of the Lord.
We can train our ears to listen to a lot of things. There’s a connection to training our ears to hear God and training our heart to trust Him.
Did you realize that as you agree with God’s Word (and the more you do), it allows Him to access your heart. That’s training your ears to hear God. Then what transpires is a change of heart and belief: teaching your heart to trust Him. If you’ve thought any real transformation is the result of you doing something, you’ve missed the connection. It’s when you hear the Word and trust Him real transformation or spiritual growth takes place. It’s as Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Hearing God’s Word and believing it. Store it in your heart, allowing it to renew you from the inside out.
As you renew your mind according to Romans 12:2 and center your thoughts in God’s Word, speaking that Word into your life (Romans 10:6-8), you cement His truth in your thinking. The more you do this, the truth and power of the Word become planted in your heart. You’ll soon find yourself walking in greater peace and joy, speaking God’s Word into your situations because of training your ears to hear and believe.
