No Fear Here

I’m sure you’d agree throughout the world in the last six months or longer whether on social media, TV broadcasts/news, a lot of fear talking has been thrown at us. In other words, fearmongering – the action of deliberately arousing public fear or alarm about a particular issue. We aren’t denying there’s been multiple issues throughout our world, but as believers, we can’t allow any fear to take over our thoughts or hearts. As Joseph Prince points out, as believers, we have no business feeding on fear.

So, how do we combat the fearmongering we’re assaulted with daily? God doesn’t want us walking and living in fear. He doesn’t want us consumed with the fear propagated around us. He wants us to walk in His blessings and protection and has given us the tools to do so. Psalm 91 gives us direction.

Psalm 91:1-2, ESV says “(1) He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. (2) I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

God’s promise is for those who dwell in His shelter. Dwell is the Hebrew word shekhinah, meaning settling or dwelling; also refers to the shekinah glory of the Lord that dwelt in the people (OT) and in you and I (NT). When we dwell, live in God’s presence, we are secure. When we abide, we live there, not wandering away. Couple this with what 2 Corinthians 4:13 says: “And since we have the same spirit of faith according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak.”

In the midst of fear spoken around us, we can speak God’s Word and promises into our lives. Fear can throw darks at us from the outside world, but fear does not reside on the inside of us because we are settled, actively living in God’s protective presence. That’s why you and I can declare without doubt God is my refuge and fortress, and I’m trusting Him. He will deliver me. Also, let Psalm 34:4 (ESV) encourage you with this promise:  “I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”

Let God’s love and presence cement the truth of His presence and protection over you as you also declare Psalm 91:2. “I will say of the Lord, “My refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust.”  Enjoy greater freedom from all fear today and in the days ahead.
