The Year of Jubilee

What is a Jubilee? The dictionary says a Jubilee marks a major milestone in the reign of a Monarch, or in our case, in the life Jack and I are celebrating this month: our Golden Anniversary–50 years—as husband and wife!! We are amazed at how fast 50 years transpired right under our feet. We’re also thankful for God’s direction in bringing us together, for our commitment to each other and the Lord, and for His many blessings throughout the years.

I remember helping my Grandparents celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary when I was pregnant with our second child. I remember Jack’s parents celebrating their 50th Anniversary together. I remember my parents edging closer to 50 years but not quite making it…3 months shy of their 50th.
Jack and I are forever grateful for our first meeting, a Bible on a chair, and cup of hot chocolate.

Why should the 50th year be celebrated? Well, it’s 50 years together! I’m not sure many young people think ahead 50 years and know they’ll be together that long when they embark on marriage. It takes commitment, God’s love, love for each other, and God’s continued faithfulness to navigate each year, each milestone, and for sure 50 years! We’re not done yet! We’ll go for as long as we can on this side of Heaven, rejoicing in our Lord and Savior, walking in His love and grace, loving one another, and continuing to share the same message with you and others.

From a Biblical perspective, the Jubilee was a year of release, restoration, and rest for God’s people. It marked a truly joyful time when captives were released. Bondages were broken. Debts were removed. People were restored, and God’s blessings were to flow in each person’s life.

Just as we are celebrating our 50th Year, we pray His blessings abound in your life. You’ve been released from condemnation and guilt because Jesus took it on Himself for you. We pray you’ll continue to walk in His love and grace, growing more into His likeness each day. We may not meet you here on earth but look forward to greeting you as we all rejoice in the presence of God because of what Jesus has done for us.
