From Seedling To Growth

Something I heard the other day got me to thinking and delving into the Word to understand the spiritual application to our lives. I heard someone state that plants in seedling form have everything needed for life within the tiny seed! I thought, okay, that makes sense, and that’s why we plant seeds to grow vegetables, flowers, etc. Then the person added this thought: it’s the same for us as believers. When we are in Christ as children of God, we’ve transitioned from this world of darkness and sin and been delivered into the kingdom of his dear son, Jesus. That is when we have within us all that Jesus had done/accomplished, and it’s residing within us! That doesn’t mean everyone knows or understands this fact. But I think we can look at Galatians 2:20 to gain further insight and see how this truth applies.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (ESV)

The seed within us is Jesus—Christ living in you and I. We’ve been crucified; that is, we died to our former self just as a seedling dies once it is planted in the ground. The death ushers in new life. Just as the seed grows in the ground, so does God’s power and life grow in us through faith. And, as you water and nurture your seedling plant, you water and nurture God’s new life within you. How do you do this?

You water your new spiritual life with the water of the Word (reference Ephesians 5:26 ESV). Water provides life, nourishment, and in the soil breaks up the dirt clods. The water of the Word is cleansing, cleansing away doubt, fear, wrong thinking, and much more.

The importance of nurturing our spiritual life can’t be understated and is why we stress the importance of activating God’s Word in your hearts and lives. Meditate on Galatians 2:20 and see God’s promised seed of life, power, joy, peace, godliness and much more expand within you. Your seedling faith will GROW I know!
