Let’s Grow In Him

Having grown up attending a Bible-believing church, I always thought the letters to the seven churches in Revelation were actual churches for the last days. We were also told we’d better make and check to see if our church was among the list, whether the good side or not as good. More recently though, I’ve come to see and understand that as believers, we form the church. Thus, I think we can glean much from these letters for our own lives now, today, because you and I are the church.

When I worked in the corporate world and it came time for the yearly review, my manager would first give me a list of my accomplishments and the improvement I’ve brought to the company. It was always encouragement first…then the areas where I could improve. That’s how I see the Holy Spirit sharing this information with us.

The Holy Spirit told the Ephesus church (Ephesians 2:2-7) He’s noted their hard work. They were workers, not pew warmers. He saw their patient endurance, continuing to stand and believe even if it was difficult. He acknowledged how they did not want to be associated with those who were evil but put barriers up from hearing false teachers/prophets. Yes, He saw THEM…individually and corporately. This is confirmation of the Lord’s interest and help to us in our everyday lives. He also recognized their diligent and patient endurance through whatever they encountered in Ephesus. Having done all to stand, they continued standing in His power, love, and grace. It doesn’t sound like they gave up if things got tough. They kept on in faith and perseverance. They didn’t quit. Their example should encourage us today.

All of us aren’t perfect believers. We’re a work in progress. But we can build on our good points and then strengthen our weak points. The Lord is always pushing us forward, encouraging us to reach for more of all that He has. He wants us to be so FULL of Him, there’s no room left for the world. No matter how weary we become, or worn out, there’s always encouragement in His Word.

Continue to stand strong in Him and in His promises, the power of His Word. He is with you in and through everything. Let’s push on forward to grow in God’s love and grace provided through Jesus.
