Our Identity in Christ Devotional

I’m sure you’ve heard the question posed “do you have biblical faith?” If you’re a believer or been raised in a Bible-believing church I’m sure you answered “well, yes, of course I do.” Often many believers think real faith comes from how they are living. In other words, if you’re living right, reading your Bible every day, and living right, you’ve got faith. Have you been there? The emphasis to faith is wrong. Real faith, as Ed Elliott says, comes from how we live from what we believe in our hearts.

Ah…there is the key. Faith comes from our hearts, not our minds as something intellectual, and it isn’t not from our behavior. Real Biblical faith is a response to our trusting God. Think about that for a minute.

How deep is our trust in God, in Jesus who provides God’s riches for us? Your trust in God comes from experiencing more of Jesus in the everyday things in life, and through His Word. The more we know Him, the more we learn to trust Him. Then we begin to know, understand, and walk in the love He has for us. That is how we’ll have deeper faith, trusting Him. God is trustworthy.

Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” The message of God’s great love for you and I is the same today as when Jesus shared it on earth. His desire is for us to continue to grow in His love and in who He is in our lives. That’s when our trust will grow even deeper. And that is when we begin to understand how our faith is strengthened in knowing Him. That’s real biblical faith in action.
