June 4, 2026Galatians 3:17
And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. (NKJV)
Paul points out a powerful truth about God’s faithfulness and the permanence of His promises. God gave the Abrahamic covenant to Abraham and his seed, who is Christ. That covenant existed long before the law appeared 430 years later, so the law could never override or cancel it.
The covenant with Abraham served as a predecessor to the New Covenant, carrying God’s promise of blessing, favor, and relationship with His people. God established that covenant in Christ, which means its purpose and power remain intact for all who belong to Him. The blessings promised to Abraham flow through Christ to believers today, reminding us that God’s promises never to fail and that our place in Christ secures us in His eternal plan.
The blessings of Abraham extend far beyond material wealth or personal prosperity. They flow from God’s covenant and touch every area of life. God promised Abraham land, descendants, and a nation that would reflect His glory. He promised that Abraham’s seed would bring blessing to all nations, ultimately fulfilled in Christ. God guaranteed protection, provision, and favor over Abraham’s household. He also promised a relationship with Himself, a covenant of faithfulness that would never fail. Every believer who comes in Christ shares in these blessings: spiritual inheritance, adoption into God’s family, the promise of eternal life, guidance by the Spirit, and access to God’s grace and provision. These blessings remind us that God’s favor flows to those who live by faith, connecting us to the same covenant that shaped Abraham’s life in Christ.
