Sheep and Snakes
September 8, 2026I have always loved Paul’s words in Ephesians 1:15-20, KJV, and I want to take some time this month to dig into the wonderful nuggets of truth and encouragement for each of us. We’ll break these verses down each week, but we’ll start today with verses 15-16. You can also look these verses up in other translations and get a broader explanation and understanding. (Jack’s also doing a study this month in the book of Ephesians).
15 “Wherefore I also heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.”
Paul is writing to the saints in Ephesus, to encourage them because he’s heard of their faith in Jesus and the love they exemplify to all the brethren. He holds them up in high esteem and acknowledges them. But he doesn’t stop there but tells them he continues to pray for them. It wasn’t just a one-time thing. He wants to know they’re doing well and growing in their knowledge of the Lord, and he prays for them to increase in that knowledge.
It is a good reminder for all of us to pray for one another, no matter where we live or what is going on in our own life or the lives of others. We all need the encouragement of people praying for us.
Let Paul’s example be a reminder for us to lift up our families, friends, acquaintances, and ministries before the Lord. You’ll be amazed at what your prayers can accomplish.
Prayer changes situations. Prayer changes hearts. Prayer changes people.
