For we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and take pride in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh,
We are the “true circumcision” because our identity no longer depends on outward rituals, heritage, or human effort. Paul contrasts the physical act of circumcision, which once marked membership in Israel, with the spiritual reality of being in Christ. True circumcision happens in the heart, not the flesh.
Being the true circumcision means God works inwardly to change our hearts, aligning them with His will, producing obedience, faith, and love. It signifies belonging fully to God’s family, worshiping in the Spirit, and boasting in Christ alone. Our spiritual transformation replaces external signs with a living, ongoing relationship with Jesus. In short, we carry the mark of God’s covenant not on our bodies but in our hearts, minds, and lives, fully in Christ.
Because of what Jesus accomplished, we can worship God fully in the Spirit, energized and guided by His presence.
We boast in Christ alone as our source of strength, joy, and identity, placing no confidence in our own abilities, achievements, or understanding. As Proverbs 3:5 reminds us, we trust in the Lord with all our hearts and avoid leaning on our own understanding. Living this way gives us a deep sense of freedom, power, and peace, showing the world that our life, hope, and confidence rest entirely in Christ.
