Of All Things Be Prosperous and Healthy

The Apostle John, the last of the original apostles and the one whom Jesus loved, wrote to Gaius, a believer, in 3 John 1:2. “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” There’s three things to note in this verse. First, he addresses Gaius as beloved. Every believer is the beloved. It is God saying “Be loved.” You are His beloved child. Second, he says ‘I wish’ which is more like a prayer, a desire for every child of God. Third, the word ‘above’ referring to ‘concerning’ all things, mentioning two specific things: prospering and being in good health.

Prospering is much larger than just finances, but certainly includes that as well. If love or joy is prosperous in you, you have love and joy to give. He also mentioned your health which is your total health and soundness. As you continue to grow in the Word and His grace, you’ll prosper in all things.
