Romans 8 Vol 1
Chapter 1
Here commences the development of the apostle’s arguments in favor of the position; there can be no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. The immediate reason is in the second verse—total deliverance from the Law. Because of the insufficiency of the Law, God sent his Son as a sacrifice for sin, verse 3; and therefore secured righteousness for all believers, verse 4. The end… No, there’s more. Keep reading. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Paul begins this chapter with a double barrel shotgun blast. This is undoubtedly the most important statement in this chapter if not in the whole Bible. This statement is the culmination of seven chapters of theological discussion, which have changed forever our thinking about God. Located as the center chapter of Romans, verse 1 sets the theme and tenor of the whole passage following. This bold statement jumps off the pages of Scripture and burrows deep into our hearts.Romans 8:1
